Berget Lewis is enjoying a spectacular career in all aspects of music. Arguably the best vocalist of her home country The Netherlands, she performs all over Europe, bowling over audiences across the continent. And in Holland she is nothing less than a superstar.
Berget is an eminent songwriter who co-produced her eponymous album of very personal, soulful music in 2013. Millions of viewers saw her excel as ‘Maria’ in the nationwide television spectacle ‘The Passion’. She starred as ‘Effie White’ in the long running musical ‘Dreamgirls’. She tours the major rock clubs of Holland and takes her show to theaters across the country. When she teams up with four close musical friends working as ‘The Ladies of Soul’, she blows the roof off the 17.000 capacity Amsterdam Ziggo Dome – an unprecedented eight times so far. She offers young talent a chance to perform in her ZO! Gospel Choir and shares her knowledge through her Vocal Master Class Academy. And if all that is not yet enough, Berget also loves to tour far away, beautiful countries like Indonesia.
With her tour of theaters throughout Holland in 2013, called ‘Blooming’, Berget reached another milestone. Sharing stories from her personal life with her audience and performing songs that were very near to her heart, including many self penned tracks from her album ‘Berget Lewis’, she forged a new bond with her fans. Never one to back away from a challenge, Berget then accepted the lead role of ‘Effie White’ in the musical ‘Dreamgirls’. During its nine month run in 2014 – 2015, Berget subjected herself to the rigors of the musical world, with its grueling rehearsal schedules, incessant travel, long days and short nights. True to form, Berget looks back on ‘Dreamgirls’ as ‘an exhilarating, fantastic experience’.
Berget is currently writing songs for her up-coming album and, following up on the ‘Blooming’ shows, preparing for a brand new tour of theaters across The Netherlands. She just returned from Indonesia, where she performed at the invitation of the Dutch ambassador. Berget fell in love with the country and its people, and is looking forward to her return in March of 2016, when she will perform at the Java Jazz Festival at the Jakarta International Expo.
During her recent stay in Indonesia Berget also gave a masterclass to young vocal talents of the Faculty of Performing Arts at the Jakarta Institute of the Arts. Passing on her knowledge of singing and the music business to young people is something she loves to do. That’s why Berget, along with her sister Donna and singer Shirma Rouse, started the ZO! Gospel Choir. This choir gives promising vocal talents a chance to sing and perform, and in doing so garner valuable experience that will help them further their careers. Expanding on this, Berget and het partners also founded the ZO! Gospel Choir Junior that gives a platform to very young talent. And she loves giving master classes to up-coming artist through her Vocal Masterclass Academy. Working with young people is Berget’s way of, in her own words, ‘sharing my expertise with the future’.
Singer, musical star, songwriter, producer, teacher, ‘the best singer of The Netherlands’… Berget Lewis is nothing less than a multi-faceted musical phenomenon.
